Years ago, Alex had worked on a project with his lover, Lana, and his brother, David, but he left before it was complete. Now, he returns at the request of his old mentor, Julia, to find that Lana is now married to David. They want to continue the project, which was to build a robot modeled after a child. Alex wants to find a child that is extraordinary to model it after, and he finds it in a girl named Eva. However, he soon learns that Eva is Lana's daughter, and Lana refuses to allow Alex to model his robot after her. Later, Alex and Lana get into a heated argument where Lana angrily tells Alex that Eva "looks like us because we both made her." Eva hears this and runs into the snow.
